I joined Infantry in or around 2001... I played the skirmish zones a little, my favorite being mechanized skirmish. And then one day, I found a zone that was, simply put, awesome. That zone was Fleet. What made Fleet unique was that it had specific stategies and, unlike many zones, was balanced. There was no "sg lame", "pack lame" or "inferno lame" or any of the things that make normal infantry no fun to play because everyone and his brother are abusing something. I played Fleet a lot, and when Infantry went P2P, the only reason I stayed around was Fleet. A little while after, fleet died, mainly because P2P was killing infantry, slowly but surely. After that, there was no reason for me to be on Infantry anymore, and I quit, as did my brother.
A few months ago, I heard that Infantry was, once again, free. I came back, in the hopes that Fleet would be up again, only to find that no one played the zones that I liked that were still around (Bughunt and HC mainly) and that Fleet had been taken off entirely, despite the fact that whenever I mention it in chat, I get at least three or four people say, "Yeah! Bring back fleet! It was such a great zone...". And how many zones that havent existed for years STILL have people in their chat talking about how awesome it was?
So I ran around in games like CTF screwing around shooting at people in the hopes that if I stuck around long enough, Fleet would come back in a rotation... Soon, KC came around, which was, in my opinion, a poor mans fleet. It had enough vehicles to make it fun, but the strategy was simple, and was still relatively unbalanced. And then CTFX came and killed the only zone on Infantry I really enjoyed... And that's where we are today.
So this post is a post to give voice to the many disenfranchized former fleet players that would love to see one of their favourite games of all time (It would certainly be in the running for me) return to infantry. It would give me a reason to play infantry outside of simply being bored in class...

Simply Put, I must agree with you. I also played fleet, and had more fun playing Fleet than I did getting pwned by people in CTF or Skirmish. The whole Fleet thing was a lot better worked out than Regular Infantry was at the time, and I still feel like Mainstream Infantry killed Fleet. The Thing I enjoyed the most about Fleet was the recurring theme of "Bomber!!" or "Missle Corvette!!" or "M Pass: 2 Frigs, 1 Dessy, and... oh man, typing death..." and getting enough XP and Rank to be able to get a constructor, and then having to set up a massive base with the 3 different sat triangles.
Guys.. dont get me wrong... fleet was fun for me.... but with a playerbase like this fleet will never make it to the list unless someone remakes it... period :/

I don't see why Fleet can't be one of those zones that sits empty on the zonelist and occaisionally gets a game going, like Bug Hunt.

I've saying bring back fleet for years too, and been poping in and out of infantry since it went free again in hopes of seeing it up. Seen quite a few of these posts in that time too with people like USMC and Symbo and others chiming in. Doubt they'll ever bring it back though. If they did, they should get me my alias back or grant me enough XP to fab. During P2P I probably started up more games of fleet than anyone else, building both bases till people joined. What did Sony do with my money? I payed to play fleet lol.
You guys know me, i want Fleet! back just as much as you. I've been wanting to do something about it recently but the lack of Satori these last two weeks has been upsetting . I hope he finishes his other project soon and comes back to us and becomes active.
Even if fleet just sat around with mostly no players we could still have some nice fighter duels every so often.

He needs someone to work on the map, so until someone with 'infantry' knowledge, I highly doubt it can go up soon
It was a very brief conversation with the higher power, but the impression I got was that it was something very small
If so, cut 4 coords from each side, and 2 coords from the bottom
Instant fix, and whatever is apparently wrong with it...
That or he got tired of me saying "Morning sir, Where's Phase 2?" and wanted to blow me off
Im afraid making the map smaller isnt as easy as just resizing the map and re uploading it. If you change the map size all of your lio spawns will be off and you will have to go in and fix all of those not to mention several things in the config file.
However yes resizing a map is still infinatly easier than starting from scratch.
It seems to me though by most of the posts here you only want fleet back on the zone list for some sort of higher status. Thats not a very good reason to put it back up. Even if 50 people here say they want fleet back up probably no more than half of those people will be online at the same time and probably only 1/4 of those would actually spec lame fleet till it filled up and it would return back to zero base population within 2 weeks if even that long.
Fleet has a lot of untapped potential though a lot more could be done with the gameplay aspect and could possibly attract a few more players.
Before you worry too much about fleet just see if you can wat a bit longer. There is a skirmish zone hopefully coming out Soon(tm) that is very similar to Fleet... only not really. It should be fun.
I would love to make a new map for Fleet but right now its not worth it with current population. Asteroids, no matter how big or small the map is, is nasty work lol. Making the current map smaller is an option, i don't know if that would work out well though :/
As for the problems with the files Koh was talking about, anyone know what they are? I havn't played Fleet! on SOE since i quit in like 2004-2005. I do know about the Bomber update + other small things people didn't like. What else was there and what is the problem?
