Just ordered today, was just wondering if anyone with a similar system could let me know what to expect performance wise.... thanks in advance

allready have a 22" monitor, and will run at 1680X1050

Core i7 920 (Overclocked to 3.7 GHz, 3.885 GHz with Turbo Boost)
6 gig DDR3 1333 RAM (G-Skill)
2 x 750GB WD Caviar Black 7,200RPM drives in RAID0
Corsair 850W PSU
Windows 7 RC (7100) 64-bit
GigaByte Motherboard
GeForce GTX 295 video card

I have 1920 x 1200 monitor.

Your system will run VG very nicely indeed. I'm not sure if you are planning on overclocking the CPU, but for me it made a big difference. I have just air-cooling, but I am not using the Intel standard CPU cooler. I bought a Noctua CPU cooler instead. I also have Antec 900 case which has really good airflow.

I do not raid so I do not have experience of the performance from such environments, but I have turned absolutely everything to max settings and I have used nVidia control panel to force 8x AA which really makes nice difference on my 28" monitor which has pretty big pixels even at 1920 x 1200 resolution. By the way, the latest nVidia driver, 185.85 made a big difference to how well 8xAA works. I strongly recommend you install this version from the get-go!

One thing I have that you do not is my video card is SLI card and contrary to what I keep reading on these boards, VG supports SLI quite nicely. The trick at least on my setup is to use 'Alternate Frame Rendering 2' SLI mode.  Just now I tested it standing around at an outpost with many NPC's and horses around and with SLI I was getting steady 70FPS and without I was getting 40 FPS.

Your 285 is much faster than 295 in single-card mode so you should get very nice performance as well.

Just by comparing your system with my own (which is built specifically to run all SOE games well) shows that VG will run great. Very nice indeed!

I have basically the exact same system as you.  I'm going to try doing the Alternate Frame Rendering 2 mode and see how that goes.  However, even though my fps has been pretty good, I still get hitching when running around into new areas I haven't been to before.  Do you get this?  If not, how did you go about fixing it or did you ever deal with it?

I do get hitching, especially around cities like Khal or New Targanol (sp?). I created a RAM drive and moved the caches directory there and that has helped the issue a lot.

I also have the RAID 0 array which makes a difference in HD access speed.

I do not remember which RAM drive software I installed, but it was free and it even has the option to save its content to hard drive and load it back from there when you reboot the computer. Works perfectly seamlessly once it is set up.

The RAM Disk software I am using is called Dataram RAMDiskVE

so, my fist night with the new rig..AWESOME! all settings maxed except for grass at 50 % ... 100% is just too much damn grass. getting 80+ fps in the open and 50 + in populated areas  btw this is a new egg system, built by Ibuypower. got it for 1,299... crazy good deal. I priced the parts alone and its over 1,400$...If your looking for a new system, I highly recomend this one.

Just a bit of hitching at first as new objects load..ie after using a rift. after that first few seconds, I didnt really notice anything substancial...Also I havnt even tried the overclocking, that both the processor, and the gc offer..I will update further.

I'm really pretty pleased with my performance but decided to try a ramdisk to eliminate the little bit of hitching I do have when first loading or entering new areas.

Followed the instructions in the thead and found setup was easy.  My cache file is 60 mb, so I made the ramdisk 90.

Only have played with it a couple hours, but it is running well.
