Since other more important ones have already been mentioned....

Please fix the way that storm clouds dissapear when you are at a certain distance and angle from them.

When you are very close or right under them, this doesnt happen, but when they are a bit off in the distance, if you look sideways at them the entire thing dissapears.  Kinda ruins the immersion factor.

Im not talking about volumetric clouds either, im talking about the huge storm clouds thing that brings in rain.

In the guild management UI (default UI), collapsing the guild member list to only show online members appears to have a bad thread that causes a resource starvation problem on the client, eventually causing the client to halt all other processing and crash.  The problem is related to the size of the guild roster in total (all characters in guild).  Since the issue is resource-dependant the point at which it starts to crash clients will vary based on hardware.

Repro steps:

1) Build a guild with several hundred member characters.  (For best results, probably start around 400 or so.  I first had guildmates experience the issue at around 300 members and I myself started seeing noticeable slowdowns at 400-500.  Since my guild now has 700 characters on the roster it pretty much hits everyone who does the following now).

2) Do the following:

  • Open the guild manager and go to the guild members tab.
  • Click the checkbox for Show Offline Members
  • Click the checkbox for Show Guild Status
  • Sort the list Alphabetically by clicking on the Name field
  • Find a random guild member and do something to them (promote/demote, set a guild note, etc)
  • Clear the checkbox for Show Offline Members

3) At this point your client should appear to hang for a period of time.  Depending on your hardware, it might come out of it or it might crash to desktop after a couple of minutes.  You won't get a popup error or anything but the client should crash hard to the desktop.

Unrelated effect:  After restarting the client, if you have modified the position of your toolbars, etc using the default UI, about half of that portion of the interface will have been reset to its default location.  Mentioning it because it happens, but it's unrelated to the bug I am reporting as it seems to happen for other crashes as well.

Warning:  Incoming technical stuff.  I do this for a living in that real world place, so I usually try to avoid it here.

The threshold for the crash to occur seems to be dependant on the amount of RAM in the computer.  (I have 4 GB in my primary machine, and guildmates who have 2 GB were crashing from this well before I started crashing).  I havent hooked a debugger up to check but what it looks like to me is a stack overflow or de-allocation problem.  It doesn't feel like heap corruption since the client terminates relatively gracefully and the behavior is so consistent.  Wherever it is, it's definitely seems to be from a user mode call rather than something passing into kernel mode, because the OS bounces back just fine as soon as the Vanguard client unloads - even on XP clients.  If you've got someone in QA who's good with windbg you can probably catch it pretty quick, though you might have to do a few passes and set a breakpoint on whatever the function is that causes the client to abort and exit.  No errors are logged in the Windows event log when this happens(at least not that I could find on Vista32) so my suspicion is that the client's error handling code is causing it to terminate without throwing an exception back to windows.   Alternatively you could use time travel tracing so that you can walk the stacks as the issue occurs without having to set a ton of breakpoints.  Of course you might have internal debug tools for the client that will get you what you need without having to go that far.  Disclaimer though:  This is all just my theory based on observation and reproducing the issue, and I very well could be wrong about the root cause.

If you need to in order to reproduce this please feel free to copy Shadowfire to your internal test server - we have 700+ characters on the roster right now and so it repros every time for pretty much all of us.  I also know from talking with other larger guilds that this happens to them too, so I am pretty sure it has to do with the size of the roster rather than anything else.

I would rate this one as a lower priority, but if you start looking into client performance issues in general I wanted to make sure you had this one here to check on as well, as it's entirely possible that a repro and debug on this might lead to fixes for other issues as well.  So, I hope it helps SMILEY

I will now go back to trying not to be overly technical.

Rain/weather effects not working in Vista.

These only work on an OS that is almost 10 years old and soon to be 2 releases of Windows ago.

Minor one, and might not even be a bug, but anyway:

The blood bonding grafts for necros abominations seem to only trigger on claw attacks, and not autoattacks, which they used to. If this is not a bug but an intended change to how they're supposed to work, you might want to reconsider, since they went from being very useful to almost useless imho. Thanks!

Edit: According to another thread under Spellcasters forum, this indeed seems to be a bug, since the heart works with claws AND autoattacks if you use the level 30 abomination, Awaken Abomination II instead of Awaken Abomination III. I don't think any level 50's wants to run around with the level 30 version of our pet though, just to have this heart working.

Bug: Getting stuck to stairs.

You get stuck to stairs when you try to climb them. This bug has been in game for ages. Very annoying and has caused numerous deaths to me. To me it looks like that height you can climb is set to just too small value causing problems with most stairs.

Lord Stormwynd crypt stairs cause this effect to me every single time. Most of the other stairs commonly cause this.

I second the stair fix.  This issue has been there for a long time.  Getting stuck and also the extreme bounciness of going up stairs.

I'd also like weather effects fixed in vista/windows 7.  It is little stuff like rain and stairs that make the game feel unpolished.

One thing that I'd like to see fixed, something that really bothers me, is that crafted throwing spears and hammers (and possibly others) do not have models. Please fix this, even if it means using the npc-bought weapon models instead of anything fancier. I highly doubt that this particular bug would be that difficult to fix, so please spare me the annoyance of having to lob invisible spears for another 10 months SMILEY Thanks!

The Thestran Human racial buffs do not display correctly, at least on my Dread Knight.

-Inspiring Presence disappears from the active buffs display when Anthamine's Charge is activated, and vice-versa.  If the latter is hidden by the racial buff then I cannot see when it wears off and needs to be reapplied.

-Insipring Tactics always shows double buff icons.  On mouseover one icon displays the buff name only with no additional text, the second one displays the buff name with the text explaining the effect.  Not as much of an issue, just annoying.

The APW five set bonus proc for Disciples has never been witnessed in any observable way.  IIRC, during the last Disciple re-vamp Sycloness was told this would probably be changed to a different proc.

I assume all Disciples have accepted the proc not working as a given, so I don't think this issue is particularly important.  Maybe put it on a to-do list of things for when you're tired but can't sleep (Ikik)?

Edit:  Sycloness was one of the Disciple class-leads.

Cry of Prowess ability for the Paladins

Description
Causes all allies nearby to instantly reach the highest level in their form.

Affects the following forms:

  • Dread Knight Dreadful Countenance
  • Rogue Stalking
  • Ranger Fighting Forms - I know for a fact this has never worked.
  • Blood Mage Blood Union
  • Bard Dances

This would be such a great tool for rangers on raids and groups and has never worked, I can't speak for the other classes listed but rangers do NOT get this full meter.

Thanks in advance,

Thretosix

If you have multiple quests that reference the same location, and hand one of them in, the location vanishes from your journal for the other uncompleted quests, too.
