We are proud to announce this year's Players of the Year! The team had the torturous task of trying to choose the best out of all the entries that were submitted. It's always a tough job, since we've got so many deserving and creative players. Our winners this year are: From EQII: Bownzer (alts: Bownz, Seelenschrei, Lazyone) from the Crushbone server! You can see the entry made on his behalf at TheBrasse.com! From EQ: Palarran from The Tribunal server! Palarran's entry: Gather 'round the fire my friends To hear a tale of yore By Karana's hand, a druid began He changed Norrath evermore Palarran Taurina is of whom we speak We’re here to tell of deeds Big or small, he does them all All you have to do is ask, and he helps fulfill your needs In every guild there is dissension No matter your faction, clique or friends Love them, hate them or indifferent With Palarran’s guiding hand and wisdom friction ends Dragon kill points need to be updated? Palarran is the man that toils away Need help to get that flag? Palarran is the man who’ll lend a hand, so that here you will stay Who lives in a knothole in Tunare’s tree? Palarran is the man and he goes meep, meep! Our shining knight… oops druid Palarran is here for keeps Leaders come and leaders go But Palarran's mettle n'er becomes unfurled A decade later, still playing together <Rest in Peace> will rule the world Thank you to everyone who entered. You were all amazing! And congratulations to our winners, we look forward to seeing you at Fan Faire!

Across all games? How do you justify a "player of the year" for ALL the games? Seriously, should have been a "player of the year" on every game. Of course, this year is "Everquest 18 billion year celebration", so of course there would only be everquest and everquest 2 winners.

I could honestly care less, but I do agree with Simnir. It makes no sense to have it go across all games. There should be a player of the year from each of their games if they want to have one. That would be like stores having 1 employee of the month out of their entire chain.. most stores do that internally (per store), as a nice little "Hey, we recognize you" to each stores's team.

If you really want to talk about injustices, it should be given the more honest title of "American Player of the Year" because only a US citizen can nominate anyone, and only a US citizen can be nominated. I can think of at least two Europeans on Halgar whom I would have gladly nominated for their efforts on our server, but it's against the rules of the competition to do so. To use the previous analogy, it's like a global store such as McDonalds having 1 employee of the month out of all their US stores and ignoring all the employees in every store outside the US. Discriminating against your foreign customers by barring them from every competition is not conducive to promoting a global gaming community, and it's long since time SOE's marketing guys woke up to this fact.

You see what happened last year when someone won from Vanguard. SOE might not have the heart to subject Fan Faire to such things.....LOL RC But, anyways.....who cares who won....it's just nice to be nominated.

Wow. I had no idea that halgar folks couldnt be in the contest. SOE prolly doesnt want to spend thousands of dollars on a possible european winner... Only thing i can think of.

Nope. It's every single SOE competition we're excluded from, even the ones with ingame prizes.

Agreed. I mean really.. What is wrong with even the ingame contests? I mean.. You still pay to play, you should be aloud to do the contests too.. @ Soresha So, on that note.. at FF you arent aloud to participate in the live quest? I mean, that would go along with the rest of your situation We can ask them questions at FF too, since you are going

There's a lot of legal issues with international rulings and such which is what I've heard to be the reason. Sorry folks.

Ok, but how does that justify even just a contest in GAME? Since we all are paying players, contests in GAME should not affect international laws.

The term "contest" is something that falls under legal stipulations so alas there can't be a "contest". Perhaps in the future we could have a "challenge" which gives some of the international folks an opportunity to participate in winning something in-game but there isn't anything in the works for that at this time.
