I'm just throwing out some examples here to ask my question.

A Kessay AR1 has a higher DPS than a high level sniper rifle, but the sniper rifle does more damage because it takes longer to fire.

Setting an automatic rifle like the Kessay AR1 as PREFERRED will allow you to fire off sniper shots with that rifle, as opposed to a sniper rifle.

Would the sniper rifle still do more damage than a Kessay AR1 when using sniper abilities despite the fact that "firing speed" does not technically factor in to an ability with a set timer for every gun? Or does the Kessay do more damage because it has a higher DPS?

Second question: Why?

Using the freefire ability from the weapon will take into the account the DPS and Timer to give you the damage score.

Using the special attacks take into account the base DPS of the weapon because the speed of the special ability is not controlled by the weapon speed, they will use their own DPS + Timer, but of course take into account the base DPS of the weapon slotted, as well as levels etc etc.

As it stands the Kessay does more damage for specials because of it's base DPS, but the Halsey does more freefire DPS because that takes into account DPS and re-use timer. This has always been the way in MMO's. So it's always better to use a weapon with higher top-end base damage for specials.

Incase people don't know (I'm sure most do, but some might not) the figures the weapon lists are its top end and bottom end damage chances. So a 15-15 means its top and bottom is 15, we don't have this in MxO but sometimes you see a range in topend and bottom end to promote more in weapon choice... i.e a bigger range from top end and bottom end means you hit some shots higher than a others but also the chance to hit lower.

If I use Lancet for the acc bonus and during IL I use the DPE ability which automatically uses a dual set of pistols, does the ability take into account the accuracy from the Lancet which was being used when the Ab was selected or the accuracy of the dual pistols that it uses?

I would think not if you're sutoswitching to a different weapon, unless it does, in which case that might be classed as stacking, I just don't know!

My own tests lead me to believe that the accuracy is taken from your current setup and weapon, but you will not be able to use the ability unless you have the dual pistols in your inventory.

It's just that I usually have Bedlams in my inv for any dual pistol abs, but if accuracy isn't taken from them then I can just use any dual pistols with a higher DPS and I'm guessing that the only difference will be slightly less Acc when I click on an Ab while DPE or other dual pistol ab is going through because after the animation it swaps back to the lancet...

I've always been surprised shotguns don't have a varied damage range.

Oh really, so to make my snipes do more damage, i just have to set the kessay as a prefered weapon?

That alone will not do that, the weapon must be equipped in the weapon slot to take advantage of that. Setting preferred should change to that weapon when the style is changed, but if you have the Halsey equipped and don't change styles then it stays with that, plus preffered doesn't always work as I suspect it should be.

Indeed. Rifles should have a 2pt different range (Kessay 14-16), SMGs a 2pt down range (Clamors 11-13 (13 is the number it has now?)), Pistols a 3pt down range (Bedlams 10-13 (13, again?)), Shotguns a 4 pt variety (lvl 50 13-17) and sniper rifles a steady damage like now.

I wonder why, I wonder why.

Also to answer the question (which has already been covered by Aqua, actually):

DPS on guns currently equipped (if it's a grun from the used style) defines Ability damage (Kessay has 1 pt more than Hasley, so it DOES make a difference, especially when both FA and LutS are applied, where the gap widens to even up to 300 damage).
Reuse timer defines OoIL freefire damage more than DPS, so Hasley with an awefully longer reuse timer does quite more damage than Kessay, whereas in IL, both guns should(?) have the same reuse timer?

Also note that Sniper Rifles have longer ranges for Free Fire than normal ARs or BRs this makes using abilities and Free Firing almost the same distance so you dont have to adjust your distance much if any between the two types of attacks.

However the Kessay does have a shorter range than the other Sniper Rifles.

Thanks for the answer!

Also, Rarebit says he IS working on enhanced level 50 guns, but I dunno if that includes silenced versions as well.
