There are other threads about this, I am aware. In an attempt not to necro but to continue to push for this, I am posting a new thread.
I want to fight in style but still have the best buffs available. As of this moment, these goals are mutually exclusive.
Now I know that changing the clothing database would be a serious undertaking. I've always said I'm willing to forego a lot of content for this, but others may not be, so would there perhaps be other ways to get around the problem?
There are RSI pills that can change a redpill's features - could you do a similar thing to change the texture/skin of an article of clothing? This might still require a database redo, I dunno.
Or - and this one might cause some game problems that I am not aware of - could you make the clothing database open-ended, or else increase its size by a couple orders of magnitude? This might allow for the creation of new clothing items - by whomever wants to create them. Give a small user interface - or use the coder interface we already have - to pick and choose buffs for a completely new article of clothing. Run a check through the DB to see if such an item already exists, make sure not to let the player name the clothing (just use the "enhanced" modifier, or some variation thereof), and if the item does not exist, create it. And - I am liking this solution more and more as I type - even if the database change does not go into effect until downtime, you can just tell the player "your item will work for now but its texture will not be what you want until the next downtime/server patch." Next week, database updates, and presto, people have the clothes they wanted with the buffs they wanted too.
Please, please do something about this. The clothes make the man. :)
