Say you want to muck around in the Matrix universe, but for whatever reason (RP, PvP, just want to farm things), you're not keen on the politicking that goes on among the three orgs-plus two sub-orgs. Wouldn't it be better if there was some org that would allow this, so that you can enjoy the game without getting involved in conflicts that you're not interested in? I know the Merv org technically is the neutral org, but there seem to be certain parties -- not mentioning any names, NPC or PC -- who want to do nothing but stir up trouble and cause unnecessary tension and/or drama. Maybe give the Archivists their own org?  Not sure how it would be pulled off, or how this would be possible given how the rep system was changed to prevent spur-of-the-moment org-jumping, but it's worth looking into.

Well, think of it this way: If you're a human operative, you need a place to jack in from in order to be in the Matrix. You need food, water, power for whatever source you're jacking in (Hovercraft, Hoverbarge, Mad Scientist's labratory, etc.) Someone has to supply you with it, if you were neutral, without a bit of godmodding, how would you get that?

I think the Merovingian is a neutral enough organization.

Or you could understand the current orgs and choose one that supports your beliefs.

I've always maintained that I'd love to be unaffiliated, but I'm not sure the logistics would lend themselves to the story, or engine even.  It's an RP can o' worms, also.

Feh.

Scanline are Merv, so that's about as neutral as the game mechanics will permit.

Of course, we have seen in the past, through live events, that it is possible for a single character to be attackable by players of all orgs, but it's possible that this is through either admin commands (i.e. a localized form of whatever rule is applied to datamine). Since it would require a contact or mission set or whatever to introduce the concept of neutrality (which is probably discouraged for the sake of encouraging players to join in live events and stuff) it probably won't be cropping up for players anytime soon.
