Would it not be a great idea for the profanity filter to include words like rofl, lol, lmao, lulz, lolz, roflmao, ggz and the filter actually translated it into *laughs*, *chuckles*, *grins* or whatever something similar in the area chat but for the client it still looked as lol or whatever. This would greatly improve the roleplay of events and would make things a bit more "in char" for everybody. All this would take, would be to write it into the profanity filter and voila no more non-rp stuff for the ones who turned it on.

I think more *chuckles* would drive Wesker to suicide.
I can see where you're coming from, though.

I like the idea, especially for the lolz that make it into LE transcripts, but people would purposefully find a way around the filter just to annoy those who turn it on.

While we're at it, let's get a filter that changes the grammar for idiots who can't type in area!
While it would be an awesome idea - doubt it will happen. Mainly because it's not a factor that will really change anything important [though it does suck for those of us who still enjoy RP and don't play MxO like CS.]
I do hate seeing LE screenshots with, "CrYptOz, how r u, liek wuts ^? w3 k1ll1n t3h z1on 2day?" Alas, *poop* SUCKS.

I don't think it's a bad idea at all, but at the same time I'm not sure I'd use it... I'm not IC all the time and having to toggle it off and on depending on my mood and the chat channel(s) I'm using at the moment would be too much work. If I did have it on, however, I would prefer it to be a filter of it's own as opposed to being part of the profanity filter. I have no issue with there being profanity in the game, both when IC and when OOC, and I always have my profanity filter off.

Maybe if it ever DID happen - then a SEPARATE filter for it.

I know what Synapse is saying and KanoR's example is pretty close to reality. It would annoy me to see it in LE posts but to be honest you can't prevent those who aren't into the RP side of things as much as other from turning up to events and there will always be those who'll circumvent the filter, so there's no point getting annoyed. All I do, if I see someone adding chat like that in area is ignore what they say. I don't respond to them if they're trying to get attention or are trying to be clever or are just being OOC etc... However, I'll react to a LE character if that character responds to them. I guess it depends on the situation. What I'd really like to see is an intelligent spam filter... well I can dream...
