This is when LESIG was good. Shadowman is a good friend of mine that put a lot of hard work into his LESIG characters.
While I knew "who you were" (I never knew you were Shadowman, though, nor do I have any idea who you were outside LESIG within MxO) by this point, I always wanted to see that part succeed. I really liked the Soniya storyline you had going, and was very disappointed that the rest of LESIG discredited you at that point, especially since there seemed to be a fair bit going on.
Hope college is going well. I now understand why you wanted to leave Indiana. So did I .

The so-called discrediting was not malicious, it was just that there were some problems with an ex-LESIG pretending to still be aboard the Scanline crew as it directly contradicted the storyline that we were preparing for Scanline. Since BA52 was never released it seems trivial now, but at the time it was interfering with the story that we were trying to produce. It was treated no differently than other player attempts to god-mod an existing LESIG/Rarebit storyline. Separating the Soniya sidestory from Scanline itself was all that was required.

(ShadowMan1od posting under this account)Blast! I tried everything to make it clear that I wasn't a part of Scanline anymore (changing my character background, completely altering my look, talking bad about them, starting a new crew, etc.). I was trying to be really careful not to step on any toes or godmod any Scanline actions, ie. I had Soniya "think" that she was sent on a suicide mission but couldn't be sure. Of course, the plot was about her getting revenge on Scanline, but I never expected any followthrough on it. The most involvement I wanted was to have some of the Scanline people kill her off, and had I known you had a Scanline masterplot going on, I probably wouldn't have even gone for that. I really thought you guys were trying to snub me. Guess it was just a misunderstanding.
BTW college is terrific.
Wow, blast from the past or what, completely forgot we did these back in the day...

Both of you deserve to be applauded for the effort you gave. I was especially impressed by Harkee remaining as a LO when Trep went. That took courage: it must have been a daunting and lonely time...
Thank you both for enchancing the gaming experience for me and many, many others. The greatest change which your arrival gave me was the accessibility you provided us; signing up to the concept of the ZIC, regular org meetings, even some prior notice of upcoming events! Your good intentions "shone through" your comments... and your omissions!

Hey, Harkee!! I liked you, I did have fun missioning with you on occasion and talking ooc nonsense, I remember you were one of the few Lesig'ers to know about my liaison's orientation, your reaction was pretty funny when you found out!
Here's a convo I have talking to Vogt/Harpalos where I brought it up:
me: Here was a good line today, Harkee one of the zion liaisons, we run missions together a lot Harkee: I think you should do an event where you unexpectedly kiss Vogt.Harpalos: huh huh For which reason?me: Well, she starting going on about how she thought tygr looked like a pimp, and I had to correct herHarpalos: Pimp?A long coat and some shirt? everyone is dressed like thatme: I don't know She's the first to tell me thatHarpalos: And that lead to kissing Vogt? me: Because, I explained that no, Tygr wouldn't have a jury full of girls in bikinis, he's g ayAnd I mentioned he had a crush on Vogt Harpalos: hahahah That makes me laugh everytime me: Harkee: If you ever leave LESIG for any reason, I think you should go out in a big g ay bang! Harkee: You and Vogt could be in a heated debate and he says "I object" and then you kiss him and say "....Over-ruled." and the crowd *gasp*s. Harpalos: hahahahme: Yes, she seems to think that its the coolest thing ever And then we wondered if the Kid would be a homophobe And I said our next event could be thatHarpalos: Stupid emosme: Hehe.Fuscienne thinks that if Tygr and Vogt ever had a meeting together, it would be the most boring thing everHarpalos: A meeting with a non-machinist and Vogt is boring for starters me: Oh you just think you're all that Harpalos: Well Vogt doesn't like working with other organizations me: It makes for an unrequited love With added tensionHarpalos: Yeah... The tension is barely bearable I rp Vogt decompiling his pants regularly because they get untidy to wear because of this tensionAs an advantage, it gives me bitsme: yeah, well I've got frags Harpalos: Good way to take advantage of feelings you try to keep suppressed. Frags always help to soothe love hurtsme: Where are you at the moment, the loading area? Harpalos: Yeah, haven't come in game during all the evenign Watching tennis in fact More interrestingme: I have to decide, do I want to sit in the loading area and think of my sweet sweet vogt, or do I want to hop on my main and roleplay with my crewmateHarpalos: Well, I don't want to ruin your decision-taking but I'll probably go sit on the couch and finish the game me: I can join youUnless you mean a real couch In real life Harpalos: A real me: Okay then, nevermind XP Harpalos: I don't know what you had in mind A metaphorical couch me: In game With Vogt Harpalos: Vogt wouldn't watch tennis, way too g ay for himme: Lol. Is it more g ay than golf? Harpalos: Yeah You see their calfs me: Oh wow Their calfsHarpalos: Watching a man jiggling left and right for 2 hours is g ay me: Maybe Tygr plays tennis sometimes Harpalos: And get his racket struck in his piercings Anyway yeah, with Harpalos, many of our Lesig ooc chats ended up pretty hilarious/random like that.
Tygr!! I missed you! You were one of my first buddies in LESIG and I was all "yay, i found a buddy in LESIG and he trusts me enough to know his big secret" and then you left. :p Too bad we never got to really work together other than the random mission here and there.
And I think you and Vogt should hop back on and do a certain event that went unfulfilled, if you know what I'm saying! :D
Now that would have been a fun event, Wolfess lol

The illusion is shattered.
Geez, has it really been three years since we started doing this crazy stuff?
When I applied for LESIG, the idea of actually playing a character in an event wasn't even on the table. We thought we were going to be asked to give feedback to the LET, and offer them suggestions as to what sorts of new events to run. Like many others, I jumped at the chance to send in my application. After all, who didn't want to truly shape the destiny of the Matrix (and who didn't believe back then that we could truly do such a thing?) LESIG evolved over that time, and even though I never felt that we were truly able to change how things went in the larger course of the game's story, we definitely were able to change the interaction between the Dev team (First Rarebit and HCFrog, then just Rarebit) and the player base.
In the beginning, I mostly worked behind the scenes, offering Rarebit ideas for new tools, and new uses of old ones. As a player, I ran what I think was the first event to use Pandora's Boxes as an event spawn. Nowadays, we have NPC spawn tools that we're allowed to use in events. I wish we had had those way back in the day... I also helped in the testing of some of the FX tools, including weird items like the smoke poofs that Cryptos put down that one time. As we learned that MxO would be relegated to static content, we tried to make the best of that content. Yes, it was a rehash and nothing truly new, but you have to admit... we got a lot of mileage out of this old code. ;-)
Anyway, when we opened up LOs to encompass 3 per org, per server, I finally stepped into a role, taking on the Syntax Merovingians. They were a small group, and entirely different in focus than the Merovingians of my home server (Recursion). In the end, I found myself enjoying the individuality present on Syntax. Many of the Merovingian core were factionally-unaligned, which I've always felt is a hallmark of the true Merovingian loner. Granted, I was often invited to parties with the big factions (and party I did!), but I always made it one of my goals to include the factionless operatives as well. Sharing lists with Bloodlust really helped, especially since he was able to be online during peak hours when I couldn't be. I'm really grateful to have had his company and support in my LO endeavors, even though our characters were always at one another's throats.
There are so many players who took pleasure in the quirky nature of my character, and one or two that managed to figure out the backstory I had planned out for her. I'm grateful for the RP reception I got from Syntax, and I regret that I wasn't able to spend more prime-time online there. After the first great LESIG leak, and the second, many of you connected the player to the character. However, I never publicly confirmed my identity, and to this day I've never had anyone harass me while on Banshae with anything related to my main identity. I think that that says a lot about the calibur of player in this game, and I'm grateful that they were able to suspend their disbelief in order to help me in my various interactions. Hopefully I can keep the story of Banshae going wherever I decide to move my RP writings to. Unlike my main, who existed in fanfiction-form even before MxO was launched, Banshae was a creation wholly borne of the Matrix Online, and I will miss her dearly.
I've grown so fond of typing in that bloody accent, too...
