With Rare's description of the new mission quest system, I think we are on the verge of some really cool stuff in terms of story missions. Think "Rescue Morpheus from Agents" scene from the movies meets Pandora's Box quests.

Anyway, I had some ideas for some things I'd like to see incorporated into the new mission system, and I'm sure you guys have ideas as well. Dreams, to be sure. But hey, you never know what might make it. So, here they are:

  1. Make mission quests more epic in scale. Get beyond the "go here, hack there, put there, leave area" basics and get really creative with what we have to do (i.e. if you don't bow to Seraph before he speaks, he instead kicks your @$$ and tells you to come back when you've learned some manners).
  2. Make at least one part of the mission quest require a team of people to complete. Maybe a particularly hard boss that requires at least one member of your team to be a patcher, or a mission that requires computers being hacked in different rooms simultaneously. Give it that "You and your hovercraft crew must complete this mission" kind of feel.
  3. Make one part of the quest so that two teams fight over the objective. If you don't win, you can't complete your mission.

That's all I have for now. I'm looking forward to some of the other ideas we can come up with here.

No, no, no, no, and no.

1.) I don't roleplay with NPCs.  I don't want to roleplay with NPCs.  Who is to even say we would know HOW to roleplay with NPCs?
2.) No.  People can't level up alts if you have to have a team.  When is the last time you saw more then two 30+ on at one time, in one area, that are both Zion, Merv, or Mach?  Impossible to require a team except for the 50s.  That would ruin ANY chance of a new player doing critical missions.
3.) Once again, no.  Not everyone likes to PvP.  Forcing PvP on players that don't like to PvP is stupid.

Well, I guess Seraph telling you to come back with more manners would be a good indicator of what you need to do. And, sad to say it, but outside of the once-an-update org party/meeting, these missions are all the interaction with the movire characters you're going to get.

Jeez, okay. I guess the standard mission system or the "500 or so archived missions" aren't enough to level an alt on? And I don't think it's registered with you yet, but the part in Rarebit's update where he said that you won't even be able to do the new mission quests until level 30 means that new players won't even get to access them unless they are on a team. And, I see plenty of same-org level 30's and up online all the time. I bet I could jack in right now to each server and find at least one in 5 minutes or less.

PvP was forced in Live Events all the time. And just because you don't enjoy a particular aspect of the game doesn't make it stupid. . .

Back to number one.  No forced roleplay with NPCs should ever happen.  Just because he says 'manners' doesn't mean I should know to bow.  I could.. salute him, shake his hand, say please and thank you.  All are forms of 'manners'.

To number two.  Sure, you could find one - but one doesn't make a party, now does it.  30 + is still a new player.  There are 50s who are still 'new players'.

Finally I never said PvP is stupid, I play on Vector idiot.  LE != CRITICAL STORY MISSION.

he only used bow as an example of manners.

I agree some of these could be changed a little but they have some potential to them.  Just like pandora's box, the first few parts you can do by yourself, but Its almost impossible to do the final box solo.  That is something that requires a team.  Besides, this is a multiplayer game, designed to be played with other players.  Sure there will still be soloable things out there, but I like the idea of more team-oriented activites.

I guess I'm an idiot for not knowing that you play on Vector? Because it's, you know, oh-so-obvious from your sig and profile info.

Stop getting so upset over a few ideas that will probably never be implemented anyway.

My purpose for this thread was to initiate a little dialog about what could be done with the new mission system and maybe try to generate a little excitement about the forthcoming update. You made your points against my ideas, and that's fine. I admit, I didn't think much about the RPing with an NPC aspect (which does seem a bit silly, from that pov).

But, I have to ask, if you are against forced PvP, why the *censored* are you playing on Vector? That's about as contrary as it gets. On second thought, don't reply. I don't care. Let's just agree to disagree, eh?

I like the first two ideas.  The third is good, but less appealing to me.

I would like to see more utilisation of a team build to do missions.  We already have missions that are done more easily if you have Hacker or Pick Locks loaded.  I can't see it being too far a step to go further and require other abilities to be loaded.  Perhaps (throwing out an idea) a mission phase that requires you craft a consumable for them (antibiotic or health pill).  Its something that LOTRO does (though they have profession at it is easier to ensure people have the right things to craft, if that makes sense).  The idea of hacking several computers at once would have an awesome feel.  Thinking about it brings back memories of Reloaded.  I highly doubt having the same level of hacking, but thats what I think about when I think of this.

As for the bowing to Seraph, that would be cool.  (Again referencing) LOTRO had a similar quest given by Aragorn some way through the game.  It basically involved exactly what you described.  You had to bow to forward the quest.  You didn't know you had to bow, just that you had to show good manners (or such like).  Would certainly make me feel more immersed in the world.

The third idea.  Its not my cup of tea, but I could see it appealing to some.

Great lol of China!

On Topic: Ideas 1 and 2 are nice. Not sure if ! can be implemented but yeah I like the ideas of interacting with NPCs to get things done. gives them more "depth" (for lack of a better word) then just a lump on a log standing there that says the same thing over and over again

Third idea I'm not feeling so much but that's because it opens up a way for some idiots to keep people from continuing there side of the story.

And yes, to the OT, something along these lines might be nice.  Not that forcing two teams to compete really has merits - just makes the teams run the mission twice you know?  There are easy ways  around that one.  But new types of mission requirements or parameters would be a neat thing, and I do like the two-hackers idea, for instance.  Pandora's Box is the only mission set I have ever seen to require hacking and lock-picking.  Leave the NPC-killing to the level 50 howitzers and let the lower levels on the team be useful by loading that support tree on the missions!

Hell you could even try to find a use for Cryptography on missions.  Ask people to "Get the data from the mainframe" and then "ENCODE the data" followed by "Submit the data to a terminal and upload to your operator."  Or something.

Sorry.  I usually try to steer clear of that.
