Now I can't seem to find another thread relating to this so here goes...
Obviously this is one of those things that would need some major work on but I thought I would post my view on it anyways.
I have recently tried a Trial of Everquest, Played City Of Heroes, and played Guildwars all of which have some form of even if very basic and primitive..
Physics Engine.
The Clothing moves with the characters movements and enviroment.
I think this would be great for MxO because relating back to the movies, during bullet time and the special effect sequences the aim appeared to be to exentuate the details of the enviroment and the clothing during slomotion effects sequences.
The Path of Neo for XBOX and PS2 even had a half decent physics engine which helped emerse the gamer.
Personally I think the clothing could stand to have some flexibility to it instead of the Cardboard look we have today.
There are most probably a list of reasons as long as a freeway why it will never happen but it's just an idea
The engine we have now is ok and you can make some mean looking characters with whats to hand and I know there are alot of other things that need changing/updating more than this, but how cool would it be running and jumping around the Megacity and PvP'ing with your coat or duster etc flowing in the wind. Ahh a very distant if not non-existent dream for me!
Anyways Here are some pics of a couple of examples
Telling us how awesome your physics engine is is the next big thing for games today (GTA IV: The walking animation changes depending on the terrain. Tomb Raider Underworld: When Lara walks she moves branches and things around her crumble, even MGS which has always been animated has ragdoll deaths now)
I cant understand why they didn't origionally animate the trench coats better in MxO rather than have them 'stuck' to your leg and when you lift your leg, it comes up too. Everything else visually is awesome about MxO, it even can stand up to todays graphical standards but it seems that they had gone through all that and someone said "Right, now to do that Trench animations... hang on, Beta starts tomorrow!" and quickly just put something together
I thought this would be a topic you would be interested in I have noticed you have commented on this matter before.
Zudrager is right. Messing with that sort of thing this far in the game wont happen..................unless the Gods of MxO would happen to decend upon us spewing fire and code.
For the most part, in my opinion, the physics you speak of are more suited for FPS, and games where the developers had the forethought to think of it. We have our "animations" and bullet time end moves. Considering the budget, and the fact that SONY doesnt give a *CENSORED* *poop* about this game, I call shenanigans on this thread, not to knock the poster, but knocking the idea as a whole. We could only wish we had the DEV staff to implement such an overhaul.
PILL
Not a problem it was just something I noticed from other MMO and wondered why it hasnt/wasnt implemented into MxO.
I am not very clued up on the behind the scenes workings of games so just wanted to clear it up as it has been boggling my head everytime I see my trench stick to my legs when I logg on lol.
Anyways keep the discussion going even if we know it will never happen because...
It's always nice to dream Isn't it lol
Cheers Guys!
Physics in MxO would be nice. Then we could have flowing coats.

Honestly, I don't know if this is one issue you can pin on there not being enough funding or too small a dev team. Generally, a physics engine is something coded into the game from the very beginning because there are numerous systems ranging from the small/detail oriented to the game breaking that all rely upon how the physics engine works in that specific title. If the game wasn't programmed with a physics engine from the very beginning then, from what I know, little short of a complete recreation of the game will be able to add one in.
That said, more believable animations for long trenches/cassocks/dresses would be nice and wouldn't necessarily even require a physics engine at all as they would just be added to the jumping/standing/idle/etc. animations we already have... they would just require an animator.
