Multiple Server Players

I'm making this post to get your opinion. What do you think is better when making a new character on another server? Should you just add a few letters to your name or switch and i with l and make basically the same character? Should you create a new character that has a new and unique name and personality?

But it is a different instance, so you can have different views with the same character, with the lack of server transfers there wont be any confusion when your Mach some days and Zion another to different people, not that I am against brand new characters on other severs.

Entirely up to you. I wanted to have the same character on all three bust using different trees. As Vinia doesn't have any interchangeable letters like i and I and l (that won't make the name look strange) I settled for adding the Initial of the Server after giving me ViniaR and ViniaV.
They all have the same personality because I'm playing them as one person who, with a little bit of software, can transfer across instances. But you don't have to stick with that. You have three slots for each server, make the same character and make a new one! Obviously then all you have to do is spend the time in levelling them up!

Ahh yes... "The problem is choice." All in all, just like what Vinia said is that it is all up to you. You still are the one making that choice, You also just need to understand that choice that you already had. ^_^

Since about every name in the world is taken in mxo I just stick with Kybutra then add some random letter at the end.

As Vinia said, it's entirely up to the individual to decide.

Personally, I opted for a different name, same ideals and character. My fourth fifty (coming very soon to a server near the proverbial you) is a slight departure from that character, therefore allowing a wider spectrum of action/repercussion. Overall, I wouldn't limit myself to slight variations on the same name. I don't really see the future benefit. However, you may.

It just seems not very creative to keep the same name. I guess I prefer that most people not know who I really am and learn to respect each character as they are. Basically it gives me the ability to avoid bias and prove myself again. I like my main character so much that I feel it would be a disservice to recreate him on the other servers.

Yeah, I've got characters of varying personalities on the same server, and then alternate versions of my main on other servers. I don't think there's really a right or wrong way to do it. As for naming the alternate server versions, that's a personal choice as well. I don't mind people knowing who the alternate server version of a character is because, as in Vinia's case, it's the same person just on different iterations of the Matrix.. I haven't made any real effort to make that obvious though (like by using the I <-> L swap for instance).

I normally create new characters with new names, but I do have FENSH1RE on Syntax... he's the exact same character who is just operating in another sector of the Matrix.

My alts are called CapnProcurator and CaptProcurator, and are all the same character. The problem with playing the same character is that - if you're going for realism at any rate - they can't join other factions. How can I, Procurator, be second-in-command in one faction, and janitor in another? Doesn't work. I may be on a different instance of the Matrix, but I'm inhabiting the same Real.

You do, though, have the flexibilty to use different trees and so forth, and you're not going to have the same items on each server unless you're very lucky or have too much time on your hands.

Playing different characters isn't a problem, of course, but if you're playing a different character use a different name. What confuses me is when characters with the same name (the slight alterations notwithstanding) are playing different characters.

I'm all for the entirely different name. There is always people that like to be fools and complain about you playing on "there" server.
