Just so I know for 100% sure...

I'm getting all the cash back for my abilities....

But I have to go run around and get the frags for them?

So... I should be out getting frags like mad then to get my abilites back?

Short Answer: Not really.

Long Answer: You might want to get a couple here and there. As far as I understand it, we'll just get every ability that can be leveled set to level 1, and getting refunded the value of the downgrades. Still, a few trees have new abilities (Awakened and the Spy ones especially) plus, some abilities that you may have never coded (Harmful Code 1.0 comes to mind) are now rather useful.

So stock up a bit on some Awakened frags for you and your factionmates (Determination was probably the only one I used a frag for, an Object) and the frags for whatever tree(s) you like.

Oh... and Clothing frags, you're gonna need them.

Actually I had brought this up in another thread

http://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/board/message?board.id=CR20Abil&message.id=724

Still waiting for an answer, and you forgot the Abilities that are no
longer being used at all in the Matrix.  Hopefully we can get an
answer from a Dev on this.

The only ones I can think of off the top of my head is Hyper-Strength now, every levelable ability is still there it seems (although Spy ones are now in very different places).

They are there now, but only for our testing.  When it goes live they will
all go and we will get info for them.  That is why I was worried about them.
As far as I know it is all abilities that are going to be removed from your char
and you will have to get them again, not just the levelable ones.

Resetting all levelable abilities to lvl1 and refunding the info should do the trick - I see no need (and alot of hassleand grumpy players) if they completely remove all abilities.

Devs, could we get confirmation on how this "refund" is being done?

I'm in the camp where I'd like to see all levellable abilities returned to level 1, with the info cost refunded.  I do, however, want to keep all of my abilities so I can just re-level them if I choose to (barring, of course, any abilities that don't exist any more).

I really don't think there's anyone out there who wants to have to hunt red frags all over again.. heck, even if we got all of our used red frags back in their uncoded form, it would still be a major pain to have to code all of those abilities again.

I am FREAKING out about this ability refund thing (me freak out? no way!)

is it going to happen or not??  if they are looking for a way to make it happen, this is my suggestion:

allow the player to recycle the abilities, and have the recycle compute the level of the ability and give the amount back in full.  this way the player can choose what (if any) trees/abilities they no longer want, and should reduce the gripage from players who want to keep the trees they have.  for example, i will most likely keep my fu, mkt, karate, *CENSORED*., and coder trees, but i'll most likely scrap my hacker trees. (yeah i have too many **bleep** trees ps increase the code archive per player lol)

at this point i don't care about the frags, they are not hard to get and frankly i have a stockpile lol. (plus it'll boost business for TBM woot)

I found this that I had put in my thread on this topic already
http://mxoboards.station.sony.com/matrix/board/message?board.id=CR20Abil&message.id=724

Pretty much it states that ALL Abilities will be refunded ie you
have to buy them again or in the case of them being not buyable
you have to hunt up the red frags and code bits again so that
you can make them.  This is a big problem because it says
that your first hunting for red frags was a big waste of your time
and for those people that are not coders you now need to find
someone to code the non buyable abilities for you all over again.

"Designer Journal 03 – Part Two- 01/05/2006

"Ability Codes Post CR2.0

Surprisingly, I haven’t seen anyone asking about Abilities and
Ability Codes. The decisions regarding Abilities were more
difficult than those about items. Simply put, we are refunding the
Information values of all the Abilities on your characters and the
cost of leveling them (if they are levelable).

I understand this is not an ideal choice for everyone, but it is the
most logical and feasible. All Abilities with any combat value have
been touched, so the odds are that a few players may no longer
want a particular Ability for one reason or another. Refunding
Information gives everyone a clean slate to make new choices."

works for me, i think most people code or at least are able to get a pal to code for them, and red frags really aren't that tuff to farm... although if you don't have any abilities to farm with lol

as the op says, get yer frags now

Looks like a fairly old post there.

Here's how it's going to work:
We are not automatically taking away anything. In some cases, abilities have been converted into new abilities and if you had the old one, you'll automatically have the new one (such as with Avoidance, which has now become Overclock).

In the case of abilities that simply don't exist any more, I'm not sure exactly what form the refund will take.

Ahhh, that is good to know. I won't have to rebuild my spy tree or fill-in-the-blanks on my Arbalest tree. Thanks for the info HCF.

uh fairly old?  from january, and frankly the last we heard about it.  it would be nice if you guys read your own design journals and kept us updated about things as big as having our entire ability databases refunded.

As someone who doesn't own every tree atm, there is the additional problem associated with the redistribution of abilities. I now have specific abilities buried way down in tree's I a haven't even begun, while its possible I will own the lot in the fullness of time it is by no means a priority and I would much rather trade them for abilities in the tree's I do plan to use...might this be possible at any stage.

Likewise with so many abilities now uncapped and requiring levelling to 50 (in some cases where they didnt level at all before) there is a significant $i cost involved, any plans to assist with this burden? (hopefully not by more missions)
