well as far as this whole thing goes i think the reason why ppl play mmo's is because of the fact that they can talk to ppl from and to around thw world like a person playing from america here can talk to someone in germany whos also playing it offers a level of play that regular console games can't really offer even thoe console are online capable now it just doesn't compare to internet mmo's plus these games happen in real time where as console games don't, but some games do so basically mmo's is big because of just two words
Diversity and Experience
thats why ppl play mmo's .
Your life is as diverse as you make it to be.

I have never played an MMO before. In fact I never really heard of them. I only heard of people who were getting addicted to online games and neglecting their real life so MMO's were not appealing to me. Not to mention that dragons, goblins, and elves just were not my thing.
Then one day I pop in the Matrix DVD and there was an entire segment dedicated to The Matrix Online. I was blown away. I never saw something like that before. I could actually jack into the Matrix and interact with thousands of other redpills. I could create my own story, and be my own operative. I would be able to start off where the movies left off.
So I log onto the forums and found an entire community of people who were just as excited as I was. No more playing against the computer. I actually had other real people to play with who shared in the same desires and excitement that I had. I was never into role playing games, but this was all digital. People created their own websites and started their own factions in preparation for the game.
I have to say this was the most coolest video game experience I have ever had and I had not even jacked into the game yet because Beta had not started.
3 years later I am 30 years old, married, with a son. I have a real life and hobbies, however I still jack in every day. I have no desire to play the other MMOs out there. Nothing comes close to the design and concept of Matrix Online. Even though I am disappointed with the turnout of the game and I have hopes and desires of what it could be, this is still the coolest video game experience I have ever had.
If MxO were to shut down I would not be joining another MMO, unless one is created with this type of concept. Fantasy, and Middle Ages stuff is not my cup of tea.
