well as far as this whole thing goes i think the reason why ppl play mmo's is because of the fact that they can talk to ppl from and to around thw world like a person playing from america here can talk to someone in germany whos also playing it offers a level of play that regular console games can't really offer even thoe console are online capable now it just doesn't compare to internet mmo's plus these games happen in real time where as console games don't, but some games do so basically mmo's is big because of just two words

        Diversity and  Experience

thats why ppl play mmo's .

Your life is as diverse as you make it to be.

I have never played an MMO before.  In fact I never really heard of them.  I only heard of people who were getting addicted to online games and neglecting their real life so MMO's were not appealing to me.  Not to mention that dragons, goblins, and elves just were not my thing.

Then one day I pop in the Matrix DVD and there was an entire segment dedicated to The Matrix Online.  I was blown away.  I never saw something like that before.  I could actually jack into the Matrix and interact with thousands of other redpills.  I could create my own story, and be my own operative.  I would be able to start off where the movies left off.

So I log onto the forums and found an entire community of people who were just as excited as I was.  No more playing against the computer.  I actually had other real people to play with who shared in the same desires and excitement that I had.  I was never into role playing games, but this was all digital.  People created their own websites and started their own factions in preparation for the game.

I have to say this was the most coolest video game experience I have ever had and I had not even jacked into the game yet because Beta had not started.

3 years later I am 30 years old, married, with a son.  I have a real life and hobbies, however I still jack in every day.  I have no desire to play the other MMOs out there.  Nothing comes close to the design and concept of Matrix Online.  Even though I am disappointed with the turnout of the game and I have hopes and desires of what it could be, this is still the coolest video game experience I have ever had.

If MxO were to shut down I would not be joining another MMO, unless one is created with this type of concept.  Fantasy, and Middle Ages stuff is not my cup of tea.  SMILEY

Well I started back in the trial period and the second i started playing I was hooked on it, but i didnt have a card at the time so couldnt pay so to feed my addiction. I made multiple accounts just to keep playing until i got my card. The day i got my cred card I was putting the numbers in my account and getting to experience more. Ive met a lot of people during my time in MxO some people ive laughed with others i have hurt in emotional ways but no matter how crappy this game gets I keep coming back for more.  The people, The Live events, The Game Play, My Faction the list is endless but I hope to stay in MxO until the end I may cancel my account now and then  but i always come back for more. I guess there is no reason to explain why I play MxO I just do and im glad I do.

I played becuase I love the matrix and to see its storyline continued. The thrill of getting to Lv50 and trying out all the abilities the game has to offer and the community is the best I've ever encountered, and I've enjoyed every single word spoken both in game and on these boards.

With the intro of CR2 was the icing on the cake as far as core gameplay.

I just wish the game wasn't so "short"

Why I play this game rather than all the others that are out there?

Sure I don't do it for the monthly fee's which are above standard..
I don't do it, JUST because I happened to be in beta testing, or the fact that is was my first MMORPG..
I don't do it for all the game features that were lost since beta, abilities such as intensify damage, or other features such as wallkicks, the sentinal, and live events on times where everyone was able to enjoy them, or the openness of live events as it was back then...
Now it's only a select few and the rest can all go do something else, preferably somewhere else.
Neither for the long missions series, the rare items or anything related to these two for that matter.

I play this game because it is the most realistic of all.
It has the coolest abilities, the best features when it comes to clothing, the endless stress and level floors that are the Megacity.
It's the thrill of,  logging in as quickly as you can, hearing a spasm of bleeps coming from the client..
it is, the kick that you get when you come through that hardline and enter Mara C, and you see the church and the music starts playing..
It's the simulation, without the crap.
I mean, consider that 80% of all the other MMORPG's are WoW ripoffs.
Wether it be in orcs and elves, or the same *CENSORED* lvl 5 wolves you first encounter in each of those games that drop either meat or money.

This game is a uniqum, if you will.

Nothing compares to hyperjump, or having an agent hunt you down when you do something the system dislikes.
Comparison: Having a huge furry animal after me cos I took an egg..       SMILEY
For those who read Baudrillard; It's the simulation.
Although it's not real, it's real enough to pretend it's real and therefor makes it real while it isn't real.

It's that this is not my world.
But it is my RSI in "that" world.
A world that I do not control, but where to some extend I do play an important factor.

It is that, if you have enough imagination from time to time, my ventrilo server is my hoovercraft.
You nearly *CENSORED* literally jack in to the Matrix.
The community is the Matrix that is the happening that is The Matrix Online.

Because all the other MMORPG's are life-replacers, and the Matrix extends.
If I choose too, I can login and support my faction.
It also happens for me when i'm not online, due to the live events and the story line.
What do the other mmorpg's have?  items and raids... nothing special happening there.
If you don't log in there, everything'll continue and you won't mis out on anything interresting, except for maybe an item or such?

The Matrix is a rush and The Matrix Online is the only way to experience it.
None of the other games in The Matrix series compare.
And no other MMORPG compares.

That's my view on WHY I play this game.
