Walrus,

First, thank you for moving my thread about Club Unit T in the Player
Events forum. Due to the forum structure itself, I was caught in bind
thinking to myself that in order to get maximum coverage, I need to
post in two different places. I, actually, do prefer to have one post
to keep updated and that means less work for me.

Now, in terms of a restructure, I actually agree with TasteeWheats's
comments below. This would make the most sense to me and would only
affect a group that is putting on an event across multiple server
worlds (more rare than regularly run player events).

So, given this suggestion there is where my vote lies. I was wondering
if you could delete the Club Unit T post that had the smaller number of
responses (only Cirga) and we can keep the one that has 3 responses on
it so far. We won't lose any information that way.

my thoughts,

-MM

I vote to have an Events forum in the World Section.

Matter of fact why not do the best of both worlds.

Example

World1
  --General
  --Markeplace
  --Recruiting
  --Events

World2
  --General
  --Markeplace
  --Recruiting
  --Events

AND

An Events section which is simply the events forums

Events
--World1  (points to the above forum)
--World2  (points to the above forum)

w00t everyone is happy and is probably do-able with the BBS software you have access too.

Yes, most of the events that I do are mostly always for my server, and
even the stories that I write also only apply to my server, so most of
my things end up falling into the general server discussion area of
Recursion.  I think that possibly an area for the events, and even
stories specific to a server should be created in the server area, then
more people will probably read them.  Sure, it wil lbe a little
bit more of a pain if people are doing cross-server events, but,
posting twice or three times is really no harm.

In conclusion, I agree with TasteeWheat's idea.  It will probably work out better in the long run.

One for each world would be awesome, Walrus!

It would be best to add a 4th section to each game world. A "Role
Play/Events" forum. This would be a central location for each server to
post our stories, and events. It would be more accessible to the people
of the server. In reality, most of the people in our server forums
don't even go outside of them. It's not like this would be a huge
bandwidth killer or inconvenience in any way.

So, as I'm trolling...er...moderating the worlds forums, I find myself moving a ton of threads to the Player Events forum. I personally like having a central resource for all player-hosted events for all servers. It is also much nicer to have an active Player Events forum rather than possibly diluting it by having separate ones for each world.

However, I also understand that it is much easier to post event notices in specific world forums so players know where the events are being held. Even if you forget to mention the world, players can identify it by the forum it's posted in.

So, here's my conundrum: Is it better to have a central location for all Player Events or better to have one for each World? If there is one for each world, is it better to have an individual forum in the Player Events section or in each World forum?

At the moment, I'm thinking it might be nice to divide the Player Events section into one forum for each world. It puts all the notices closer to the "front" of the forums for quick reference.

That's my 2$i. What about you?

Not sure if it's been said, at this point because I haven't read all the responses, but create individual boards, but have all posts created in there automatically be posted in a central location as well.  That way it's one central place, and for the players that are looking for a specific server, they won't have to sort through everything.

Not really my cup of tea, but I'm thinking if there's a large enough demand for this segment of the webpage.  Shouldn't it have it's own section on the side menu?  Perhaps, some type of entry form with Name, Date, World, Clan, Faction, etc.

If the demand is small, keep it World specific.

The personal touch always has its advantages though.

So Walrus did you make your choice yet on how threads will be moved in the future? Reason I ask is that you havent replied back to this thread.

It looks like a lot of folks would like separate Event forums for each world and also, it seems, an RP/Storytelling section. I apologize if I misappropriated anyone's stories, but I think this thread also points out the same conundrum there.

I'm still getting used to the tools available on these new forums, so I'm not sure if an automatic posting option is available (i.e., someone posts one place and a copy is made in another). I'll have to look into that (among other things).

What I'm getting now is a majority of folks responding would like to see something like:

World 1:
-Recruiting
-Marketplace
-General
-Events
-RP

And some folks would also like there to be a central resource as well. As I mentioned above, I don't know that I can set up any kind of auto-posting here. But if we keep a central location and add the world-specific forums, it would be up to the poster to put the information in both places.

I am not sure if we really require seperate RP/Event forums, as they usually go hand in hand, in my experience.

Very cool..Thanks Walrus...I know your busting away.....and I
appreciate what you have done...especially acknowledging the fact we
would like a separate forum with our server for RP
stories/events.  SMILEY

If you can't do "auto posting" what about a "pointer" to the individual world event thread?

I think the "player events" section should be in the community section

1. Player Events - Vector

2. Player Events - Recursion

3. Player Events - Syntax

I
must respectfully disagree. The Club Unit T events do not have any RP
elements to it and there are many ad hoc parties that happen that do
not have anything to do with the story line or an RP event. That being
said an Event that has RP elements should be posted in the Events forum
so that it gets the attention it deservers. Putting it inside the RP
forum may lose in the the cloud other, non-event RP threads that may
exist.

I think it's best to have seperate forums so those things do not clutter each other.

My thoughts,

From my time on linenoise/syntax I'd have to disagree with that too. RP does not always equal event and event certainly doesn't always equal RP. They are two different entities that cater for two different play styles. While there can be some cross over, there often isn't. No, they need there own seperate sections.
