Except sometimes it resets the re-use timer so you lose a round without being able to attack.  And when this happens it usually bugs out just before the reuse is done so you cant do anything until you turn free fire off and back on.

Really? I've never had this happen to me. Maybe I've just gotten use to it, but the only time free-fire/interlock re-use timers bug on me is when I try to break someone's shield when they are out of range/free-fire them when although client-side they are in range but in actuality of the server, they're a few feet ahead of me.
