Ok, so I am going through checking the posts on DN1, and I see that I was still the last person to post in this section....

ALMOST A MONTH AGO!


In addition I also noticed... well it's bloody obvious... that almost no one uses coder...

I use it quite often along with other trees against NPCs... helps with farming...

But what motivation is there to use it in PVP?

So I figure why not make a thread... hopefully it will be positive... on changes that are needed to make coder more useful as a pvp tool.

In summary post here, what you think needs to be added/changed in coder to make you want to use it in pvp.

I might as well try it first eh?

1. Coder is largely trusting the AI of the game to fight for you (Duh sims). Sims still use pretty stupid tactics, but it has been slowly getting better. Perhaps to make up for the "stupidity" of the sim they can do a bit more damage as a player will often fight a sim for a long time.
2. No way to track your sim. Because the coder will get owned in and out of IL, he must hide and send in his sims... but where is that sim? Not to mention how easy it is for a sim to get lost.
3. The coder himself is pretty much helpless. Viral accuracy is low... melee accuracy is low... ranged accuracy is low... and I don't think thrown even exists for it. Either way you have a low probability to hit, the coder himself needs some kind of way to defend himself other than the proxy. Players are smart enough to ignore the proxy, and go for the owner. Perhaps something that only boosts defense rates on the coder, keeping him from being hit, but not giving a boost to actually hit.
4. Coder is similair to a "Necromancer" or "Summoner" in other games... most of those games let you make several cronies to follow you. Coder could make use of this to help even out the "zerg" effect against their team. Allow coders to make a group of lower level sims 5 levels lower than the coder. A group of these may consist of three, and the ability should have a long re-use timer.

 Basically. Either allow me to directly control my sim (ie. select his class, tactic, stance, melee or ranged etc etc) or make the AI half decent. 

 

 Or let me make mobs as you suggested. And only 3 levels lower (i.e. green) because otherwise they'd be useless.

I've been working on a pvp build for proxy for almost 2 yrs now and I still haven't found a decent one. The biggest problem I've found is รก proxy master has no IL moves. There is not one IL move down the proxy master tree. To me they need to make the virals attacks down the tree able to be used in and out of IL.  Out of IL my build is pretty solid besides the fact that viral acc blows for that tree. In one vs one pvp battles the tree is still underpowered but not as much when it comes to mass pvp. If it's one on one you can root and stun a person (assuming your virals land) until your proxy gets them into IL. and you can use enrage to try and stop them from rolling. But in mass pvp you can root one person but everyone else is still there to put you right into IL. Once ur in IL you gotta prey to god you get out before they kill you. (Which won't take long cause a proxy master resistance is garbage.) If you give a proxy master some IL moves that cause medium range damage along with the sim free firing it would be a pretty even fight.

You say you haven't found a decent coder build...I've found and used a build that, without sounding too big headed, usually beats any class one on one. Infact, given the chance and with a bit of luck, you can beat two people without even trying at the same time. The load uses Proxy master and one of the operative trees, I won't share which one because i fear that every man and his cat will be using it!

On top of that, I also have a nuker sim load which works very well for team pvp when you lack numbers. Like before, i'm not going to share the load!

The trick to coder seems to be finding the best supporting tree for it, depending on what role you want the sim to have, and what role you want yourself.

He can generally beat people 1 v 1. I'v had a good few duels with him and dam its tough lol I don't think he has a support tree, think he is full coder but not 100%. When i'm lvln up my 4th char, gonna use proxy's. Got up to lvl 13 on that char so far and it does seem quite fun. Weird with me not doin the work in il lol

Yeah, I'll use Utility Master sometimes in PvP. I haven't lately cause of a certain person just loading that Destroy Proxy ability and switching back to their main load after killin my proxy.

I agree with Gerik about the proxy coder ability. It's stupid that the tree that takes the longest time to set up properly can be completely crippled by someone with macro'd loadouts, which I think almost everyone does.
                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
I think if they changed Proxy coder, or totally removed it, then people would at least give it a go more often.

That, or if they took the time to understand the tree itself. lol I think most people just think that its all the sim and you get to do nothing, when you actually gotta give support and/or IL your opponent.

Well said..this ability makes the whole tree worthess on vector..some red is always bound to macro enough of their prime tree down that that abil and just destroy every sim you make..the sims die fast enough from normal attacks,that ability should not be in game.

on the UM side there are 2 IL moves and one of those needs a state.   That said.  I've lvled up from 2 to 50 on my third 50 with only the proxy/um trees.  with the right stats and learn what your sim can do and what sim to use on who(npc's)  and its not too shabby.  




Tho,

Anyone whos played cov/coh can attest to there 'masterminds' have the best sim control i've ever seen. upto 7 sims that you can individually or group control.   Devs!!! go check it out and maybe you'll get some ideas to help our simmys!!

Not to mention the 'Destroy Sim' effect is totally broken.
I tried using it on Morpheus once, and it said he wasn't a simulacrum. SMILEY

... But seriously, something needs to be done to make the coder branch more viable. Look at all the past Operative Profiles and take a look at who uses coder for their primary tree - not a one.

Managed to get my lowbie upto lvl 15 so far (had been concentratin on another char) and all i can say is, I love it lol So fun to use, makes farmin a doddle. Atm with it I'm taking down lvl 20's in Yuki fairly easily. Going to go around farming for collectors items, just cause I'm enjoying it. Can't wait to get it lvld up more.

Even kinda tried to pvp with it. lvl 14 Spy was flagged but the hippie wouldn't keep it at peace to let me kill it SMILEY

A point on the map really needs to be done. If you lose your sim the only way i know how to get it back is to flick it to follow a couple of time. Will eventually make its way to you. The sim seems to bug out every so often aswell and will just stand there not attacking. Again flick it to attack (i always use aggresive aswell.)

I'm going to have some weird stats with this char. Main stats are for MA but going to nearly max melee acc/hacker dmg (will help winning rolls in il, i hope), roughly half stats for the viral acc and half for melee dmg. Will prob mean i won't managed to put any in Vitality but i think (hope) it will work out alright.

It's quite good, Proxy Master That is. I prefer using it while farming, But I often use it in PVP. It is a fun load.

Yeah or you can remake the sim using the ab.

And yes there are IL moves tho very few in that tree. + people need to rmbr that the coder tree is very much used to code stuff for people. not sure if coh has that in their necro or w/e it's called there. pvp wise tho, u're right, they should take a look at it. i just think they don't wanna bother with the game balance issues that my cause.

There's nothing wrong with the tree itself, I've used nothing but coder in PvP and did fine. They do need to remove or put a looooong reuse timer on that kill proxy ability.
