My opinion.....

The annoying this is that the people who actually bothered to renew their subscriptions before the cutoff date, the promise just hasn't been kept. I saw 2 dates thrown about, June 1st as the cutoff data for billing a subscription, and July 31st as the cut off date.

Never anywhere did I see a mention of 28th of May....

To be fair, anyone that didn't subscribe till the 1st of June is probably just unlucky.... they did mention it even if you didn't have time to read it.... however the people that subscribed before that date should get more than a refund. They should get access to the game that they were promised however if you look at the terms of service it does clearly state that they have the right to refund you for whatever game time and cut you off so there isn't much you can do.

All I can say is SOE has acted totally unprofessionally about this. It's not the Customer services fault either. At the end of the day they're just the bottom feeders (no offense SMILEY) you need to have a go at the higher ups who are telling those CSR's what to say!

Hmm last time I heard this mentioned SharpShooter was an inactive ability on the trees?

I thought this was answered earlier on but his first answer is correct.

Sharpshooter negates the penalty for shooting at another player who is engaged in interlock with someone else.

Generally it is to notice that there is a well-known (and publicly accepted) bug that will do the following:

Once an ability is logged to hit (it will take some practice to notice it even before the graphical effect (green flash on ability) takes place, though) you switch to another tactic (most commonly Power for a 20% damage upgrade) and the characteristics of that tactic will follow through to the end of this round and the next one.

It's not only a bug, it's an exploit. Teaching exploits is just as bad as using them.

I          /^^^\   |             |

|         |        |   |             |

I____   \____/   |_____    O

That hardly qualifies as an exploit,  more like good strategey.

SOE's Community Standards policy, Section 12 states:

You will not exploit any bug in The Matrix Online, and you will not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug either directly or through public posting, to any other Sony Station member. You will promptly report such bugs via the /bug command in-game or by visiting http://help.station.sony.com. Exploitable bugs include, but are not limited to bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits in-game. Exploitation of bugs within the game will result in disciplinary action being taken against the account that may include official warnings, account suspensions, or account terminations depending on the severity or repetitiveness of these incidents which will be determined by a CSR and a CSR Supervisor. Multiple suspensions or account termination will result in the termination of all SOE game accounts.

The tactic switching bug is exploited to give players an unintended advantage, the only reason that it's status as an exploit is questioned is because it's very difficult for players to assertain if another player was using this bug when fighting and it would require a re-work of the combat system.

However if you take into consideration the general definition of exploits in Multiplayer games, tactics switching is defined as an exploit therefore somebody who does not come onto the forum that much will probably know nothing about the discussions taken place here.

It was different because the old formula of stories that revolve around tolerance, galactic diplomacy, and the idea that even through adversity the future can look brighter and more wonderous that we can imagine doesn't sell movie tickets.  Moviegoers find that boring and not worth their $10 to see.  What I would suggest doing if you like Star Trek is to continue to read the books that come out.  The ones that Pocket Books put out are really good and satisfy that Trek need we don't get on TV anymore.

And yes, it was better than Insurrection.  Better than Nemesis too, imo.  Here's the thing though.  It looks like the 'Star Trek Movie Curse' has switched.  It goes that the odd-numbered Trek's are of lesser quality than the even-numbered ones.  Nemesis was Trek 10 and was weak.  Now that Star Trek is Trek 11, and is great, it breaks that rule.  Guess this means we'll have to wait for the sequel to see if the curse has really switched sides or not.

As I said to me, as a Star Trek fan, it just didn't feel like a Star Trek film, and definetally wasn't as good as Nemesis. At least nemesis managed to bring out deep hidden emotions in people, and there is nothing in Star Trek (2009) that was as moving as Data's sacrifice in Nemesis.

Nemesis is probably my personal greatest film of all time though as I love the TNG period so I maybe a bit biased, but what I do know is, just because a particular formula doesn't sell movie tickets to the general population doesn't mean that everyone hates it, which is why I personally prefer the majority of the old films to this latest one.

No he didn't, he had nothing to do with it.  Another poster got ballistic and hysterically nasty (toward anyone who said anything less than positive about SOE, by the way), and the thread gut really ugly and I suspect that had something to do with the original thread's death.  Nor has Shearman (the OP) said anything outrageous or untoward.

Actually the entire point of the thread that was locked was to stir up trouble by openly attacking Virrago.... which coincidentally is against the forum rules. Secondly if you check the rules, petitioning is also against the forum rules. It wasn't just the comments made but the entire nature of the thread was against the forum rules from the get go it was nothing to do with the content of the thread, just how that content was put across.

Nothing good comes from getting angry and unfortunately the couple of new (or old) people that have suddenly popped up on the forum are trying to put their views across.

also as a side note and not as an accusation. If you're going to post something don't hide behind a faccade. Show your balls and post it yourself. Appologies if this is untrue however there are at least 2 new people that are very active about putting views across that feel like they have been buildt up for years.

Ok so I'm going to throw up one argument here which hopefully might just convince some of you. The rest of you will probably just read over it in an attempt to shield yourselves from the truth or some may find a valid counterpoint in it we shall see.

Now, I'm going to state 3 assumptions.

1) SOE does not care about the state of MxO, only that it continues to make a profit against the cost of maintaining the servers.

2) The majority of players here are die hard fans of the Matrix series and will not leave till the servers shut off.

3) SOE has a relatively good business head on it.

Now the first ever (proper) thread about a server merge was made 12th March 2006 which is more than 3 years ago now and can be found here. Now this thread only briefly touched on the issue and never went into any depth but it was after the CR2 update and around about the time of the exodus from MxO due to the combat system change. Back then some of us had suspicions about the future of this game and due to assumption 3, so did SOE.

The second thread which covered the topic more broadly was made on the 9th July 2007 and can be found here. Now during that time I'm sure we were finding our respective servers slightly less crowded than they used to be which using assumption 3 again SOE will probably have predicted that the game will be going downhill from there especially from this point onwards we saw a slow but steady demise of MxO resources.

Now we have 2 threads here that show a population problem 3 years ago and a 1 year 9 months ago which to be honest I don't see how any business couldn't have noticed since they're the ones with the official figures. The fact that they started draining resources confirms my first assumption since they never really attempted to breathe new life into the game, with the exception of CR2 which incidentally was a monumental failure in terms of population.

Now if we have players who can see this and have the idea of a server merge then I think it's reasonable to assume also that SOE who have a good number of people experienced in managing online games from a business aspect, will have also come up with the idea at some point down the line.

So essentially SOE could either, do the server merge which will cost lots of money and may increase the server population yes but it wouldn't remove the negative reputation that MxO has and we still wouldn't have as large a population as the majority of other MMO's out now so therefore we probably won't make the money back.

On the other hand SOE could leave it as it is taking into account that a lot of players have stated that they will be here till the end on the forums which won't cost them any money and they can be reasonably sure that the income won't drop drastically, which could happen if the server merge failed and they lost all the data on Syntax and Recursion.

So to put into a few sentences, SOE would rather spend as little money as possible to maximise their profits from the game rather than put in lots of money in an idea which may or may not increase the games total population or worst case scenario could make 2/3 of the game vanish in an instant due to the servers failing upon merge.

Again I'll state that I don't think the merge is a bad idea in principle, in fact it's a good idea. It’s just that it would be a big gamble for SOE to commit the amounts of money required with little or no increase in subscriptions.

Basically, my thinking is that if SOE is serious about keeping this game running, as a "Legacy" or "Attic" game, at a certain point I think it would behoove them to merge the two nonhostile servers.  Even though it would require a temporary allocation of developer(s), it would save them money in the long run by not having the expense of a third server and it would retain more players than if they did nothing and let Recursion wither and die.

So the bottom line is, how serious is SOE as far as keeping this as a Legacy game?  If theyre not, I don't see the point of having a game in six months that has a total of ten or twenty players total.  They'd have to shut it down.....and lose the distinction of never have shutting a game down before.  Otherwise it would be like a town that keeps spending big money to keep an Aquarium open that has no fish in it

It makes no sense.  Oh well, we'll see what happens.

It makes no sense in terms of the buisness world yes. I can see where your coming from but the problem lies within the technical aspect of the problem and it won't be solved by a temporary allocation of devs.

Quite simply it's not a simple matter of copy and paste. There are rules set down to have a normalized database which I'm not going to go into because.... it's beyond a good 80% of people on this forum. Certain bits have to be picked out of the database to be transfered. Now Rarebit has been working on MxO for as long as I can remember and he's stated before now that he's only scratched the surface of the actual coding of MxO. At the end of the day the only way it's going to happen is if a bunch of devs reverse engineered the coding behind the game which I'm going to assume they can't because of some legal BS put in place by either WB or Monolith.

Even if the game was reverse engineered the launcher would also have to be updated to reflect the change. The custom type created for each server in the database would have to change also to accomodate the fact that the new merged server would have 6 character slots which then requires that all the data in the new server be re-ordered to accommodate that.

In the end it's a lot of sweat and graft that SOE would need to put in to actually make this happen. Assuming that WB and Monolith allow them to.

I'm not saying that a merge is a bad idea, far from it. However what I'm saying is currently technical and legal issues will probably mean that the idea isn't going to work.

Yes, I'm intentionally destroying our server, but hey, making someone happy and making them KEEP playing the game is better than them getting pissed off and going "this game sux"

To be honest, if a few players were around Uriah to suck up the new players coming in it would at least encourage the players who immediately come in and quit because they find nobody around to stay.

At the end of the day, my idea is an alternative to an idea which has less than 1% chance of actually happening. Even if every player in the game screamed for a merge it won't happen for two reasons.

1) We no longer have the expertise to do a merge of the servers. Even with Rarebit we didn't, only the original monolith team did.

2) Public views, At the moment I'm sure we're not one of the top ten games probably due to the fact that we've had absolutely no marketing since the Wb -> SOE switchover. If however we suddenly went from 3 servers down to 1 or 2 every nay-sayer about MxO is going to have a field day going "The end is nearly in sight".

The only time we are going to see a change in the number of servers is when we go from 3 --> 0

So no offense but trying to shoot down an alternative idea which requires only a little bit of time from players (not devs) to one that was shot down almost 3 years ago..... is slightly pointless. It's not something that requires money or dev time, just your time and to be honest I'll be spending what little time I actually play in this game helping those newbies.

This is the direction we'll be going in. Personally I don't think it's a good direction. I'd rather all my media was kept in one place so I know what Mistakes is on about when he says our rights, although I wouldn't put it so melodramatically.

It's going to be good for the little kiddies and the casual gamers as they no longer need to think. they just click, buy, play. and really it's a good idea for the most part but I'm worried about how this technology will be implemented in the future. It might not just be the death of Minimum requirements but it could be the death of PC's.

If a game which requires huge amounts of input and output operations to be performed every second can be done across the world from the actual processing portion of the game then it has implications for the entirety of data storage. Soon we could be seeing (as just one possible outcome of course) the localization of all the data into one central point. At the moment computer power is progressing so far that it's becoming possible for one central database with a huge multilayered processor to power thousands of dumb terminals. We could potentially be looking at a future where we no longer know exactly where our data is being stored. You would sit infront of a dumb terminal which would be a computer which can perform input/output and send/recieve data through the internet. Then you would just login and have your files available to you on a server.

Everything then can be localized at one central point and then there's no limit to what the companies owning this system can do. They could charge a user a specific amount of money for each song you listen to, each time you listen to it for example.

Looking back over I maybe over dramatised this situation and maybe went a little off topic as well but I'm posting it anyway because it is one of the things that I feel is a possibility with increasing chance. Anyway to sum up (and to stay on topic) Do I think OnLive will be a success? No doubt in my mind. Do I think it's a good idea? Nope.

Gaming companies will not buy us. We're stuck with SOE and so far they're keeping us alive at least so make the most of it since I've yet to find any game thats comparable to MxO.

I'd shut MxO down for 2 weeks, make it as noob friendly as possible. Complete the Vista fixes and then finally re-release as MxO 2.

I have already sent you an offer via email, assuming your name ingame is Telemancer.

Ok for those who are interested I'm going to say that anybody who wishes to buy a single item will have to wait a week. Because I have all 6 items I'd rather send them off as a big group and I am willing to make a deal with these as I put in 0% effort for these (won them).

If they have not sold beyond Tuesday 3rd of Feb I will be then willing to sell them seperately.

Oh yes they are.... should have mentioned that perhaps xD

Although you can switch them I think?

I have all six items, never been used before full stability/purity

If you want to buy 1 or more of the set or the entirety reply or give me a pm/email ingame. Names Veroxidias and we'll chat about prices.
